PA VOAD Convening Highlights Key Collaboration Opportunities for PA 211

The Pennsylvania Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (PA VOAD) held its most recent convening with a strong focus on improving coordination and communication across disaster response systems in the Commonwealth. PA 211 participated in this collaborative session, which centered on three critical themes: information sharing and resource routing, volunteer management, and donation management.

As the statewide information and referral system, PA 211 plays a vital role in times of crisis—connecting individuals and communities to immediate relief, long-term recovery resources, and volunteer opportunities. This meeting reaffirmed PA 211’s position as a trusted connector between the public, service providers, and emergency response networks. PA 211 is committed to utilizing technology, as well as people, to assist in managing all the key components necessary to coordinate disaster planning, response, and long-term recovery efforts.

Strengthening Information Sharing and Routing

One of the primary topics of discussion was enhancing real-time information sharing among VOAD members and government partners. PA 211 emphasized the importance of real time updates and accurate data flows to effectively route callers to local resources—especially during large-scale disasters when conditions shift rapidly. Participants explored how PA 211’s centralized database and trained resource navigators can help ensure consistency in public messaging and referral accuracy.

Volunteer Coordination and Management

VOAD partners also shared updates on volunteer mobilization, training, and credentialing efforts. PA 211 contributes to volunteer coordination by promoting local volunteer opportunities and directing individuals to the right agencies or platforms during both response and recovery phases. Attendees discussed the need for better integration between state-level systems and local efforts to maximize volunteer impact, especially in underserved or rural areas.

Donation Management Systems

Donation tracking and responsible distribution were another focal point. In disaster scenarios, managing in-kind donations and financial contributions can be a logistical challenge. PA 211’s role in public communication helps guide well-intentioned donors toward reputable organizations and verified community needs, preventing misdirected donations and reducing burdens on local responders.

As disaster frequency and severity continue to rise, PA 211 remains committed to its role in the VOAD network—helping Pennsylvanians navigate resources with clarity, compassion, and coordination. Continued engagement in these conversations ensures that systems remain people-centered, responsive, and ready to meet the evolving needs of communities across the Commonwealth.
